This exceptional pear-shaped silver chocolate pot was made in Hanover, Germany around 1850.  It has an acorn finial, a sideways opening lid and an unusual ehgraved crest which features a kangaroo, Neptune and a diving helmet which suggests that it is in some way connected to Kangaroo Island in Australia which was sellted by a large German contingent during the first half of the 19th century.

WILHELM LAMEYER, born August 18th 1808 in Twistringen. Master silversmith in 1837. In 1839-1844 worked as partner of G.J. FR. Knauer in Hanover. After 1844 running his own workshop. From 1872 with son, Carl Lameyer (1847-1923), under the name W. Lameyer & Sohn.
